This poster entitled The Bird-Man, depicts a man wearing a fanciful flying apparatus with wings.
The illustrator, George Hammel was born into an upper middle class family in Laval September 18, 1900. Hammel, also known as Geo Ham showed an aptitude for drawing and painting at an early age. In 1919, at the end of World War I, Hammel was accepted in to the prestigious Beaux Arts in Paris.
Hammel became fascinated with mechanical sports and accumulated mountains of quick sketches depicting motorcycles and aeroplanes. Later in his studio on Drobropol Street, Hammel took the sketches and transformed them into gauche and water color paintings.
During his productive career Hammel produced many colorful paintings and illustrations of sports vehicles and airplanes.
