Description:
This cover of Literary Digest on October 6, 1917 pictures an airfield of biplanes during pilot training next to portable barracks.
As a part of war-time efficiency, portable barracks, were taken and installed in France which allowed bases to be moved quickly and efficiently.
Every weekly edition of Literary Digest featured illustrations of the war effort ranging from troops to combat, to shipping, and supplies.
In spite of the colorful and striking war scenes on the cover, Literary Digest was not considered a news magazine as much as it was a opinion monthly. Literary Digest published editorials and political commentaries on a large number of issues. Some of the issues were war related, others were domestic or religious. There was also a lot of advertising and political cartoons.
