Description:

6th Air Festival. Vincennes Airport. Pentecost weekend, May 20-21,1934

The "6th Annual Aerial Festival" was a two day event held at the Vincennes Aerodrome on May 20-21,1934. A wide variety of events were presented to the enthusiastic audience, including races, precision landing contests, gliding demonstrations, parachute jumps, flying trapeze shows, and acrobatic flying by Miss Maryse Hilsz and other well known pilots. One of the most important feats accomplished here took place on the second day of the meet when Robert Kronfeld set a world’s record in gliding. His motorless glider airplane was towed to a height of 3,500 feet and released. The pilot then remained in the air for nearly 2 1/2 hours, encircling the aerodrome 52 times before landing.Unfortunately, Kronfeld stayed in the air such a long time that the crowd was occupied with other events and no one cheered his arrival on the ground.
