Title: Le Temps Est de L’Argent Description: The theme of this poster is “Time is money, the wings will win time.” The poster was part of a series issued by Comite Francaise de propaganda Aeronautique, and was used to promulgate interest in aviation. The monoplane pictured, combines an artist’s fanciful interpretation with popular 1924 models. The personified ‘eagle-plane’ clutches a bag of money with its talons in an attempt to keep up with Father Time. According to the poster book Looping the Loop, the mythic figure of Father Time runs with an hour glass over his shoulder and carries an infant in his arms. (Villard, p.127) However, on closer inspection what appears to be an infant is instead a bag filled with money out of which bank notes fall. Georgs Villa was the illustrator. He was well known for depicting the globe, and other playful, fanciful illusions in his aviation posters. |
