Description:
This poster depicting parachutes made with French silk was produced during the World War II German occupation of France. Details on the leaves reveal French silkworms spinning silk. This poster is an example of French patriotism in industry. The German government encouraged support of industry and textiles for its own profit.
In June 1940, France settled into an armistice with Germany. By 1941, France had surrendered to German occupation. The French government at that time was commanded by General Petain in the city of Vichy. The city of Vichy which served as the free-zone capitol of France was little more than a nazi-focused puppet-state. The term ‘Vichy’ is now used to describe an occupied territory government.
