Description:

This poster is an advertisement for Aviation History Day on July 26th, 1931. The objective of the aviation day was to spread information about French aviation. The illustration depicts the journey from the structurally inferior biplane of yesterday to the sturdy high performance propeller planes of today. The angular structure of the biplane in the center spells out the word French word ‘hier’, meaning yesterday. A monoplane in the foreground spells the word for today, ‘aujourd’ui’.

The aviation day, organized by Simon Bolivar, took place on 50th avenue in Paris. The day lasted from 10:00 in the morning to 6:00 in the evening. The previous night, Saturday July 25th at 9:00, there was a conference in the ball room.

The aviation day was held under the auspices of the chief administrator of Saone and Loire, the municipal counsel, and a senator, Mr. Chopin. The famed pilot, Maurice Bellonte, and France’s darling air-woman, Maryse Bastie were present at the days events.
