Description:

The poster, Internationale Luftfahrtausstellung was an advertisement for the 1923 Aero Exhibition at Gothenburg. It was also depicted on the front cover of a pamphlet advertising the show. The show commemorated Gothenburg’s 300th anniversary and celebrated the life of the city with a jubilee exhibition and an international aero exhibition. The purpose of the aero exhibition was to promote further developments of the airlines of all nations.

The exhibition held July 20, comprised of a meeting for international airlines, and manufacturers of airplanes and a spectator event for the public. The exhibit was also a ‘trade show’ to showcase progress made in flying. The history of Swedish air travel, and their contribution to the airline industry was celebrated in the exhibit along with The Royal Swedish Aeronautical Society, founded in 1900 which is one of the oldest aero societies in the world. Ben Cederstrom, the first Swede to become an active flyer and Dr. Thulin, a flyer and constructor of airplanes and head of the factory, "The Aktiebolaget Thulinverken".

The object and program was to present scientific and technical aeronautics to the technically interested and general public. Three sections of interested were covered: the aircraft section which presented leading manufacturers of aircraft, motors as well as an exhibit of complete machines and propellers. An equipment section, displaying parachutes and flight clothing. Aerodrome section with models and drawing for aircraft ideas. Theoretical section which included aerial ads and photos. Historical section with the history of flight in Scandinavia with demonstrations by the worlds most prominent flyers.

Flight is especially important in Sweden where great distances are traversed for communication between popular districts.

The plane on the Internationale Luftfahrtausstellung poster spotlights Gothenburg, Sweden (where the exhibition was held), as a prominent point on the globe. It was the first international aero exhibition held in Northern Europe to promote aviation in Sweden and beyond.
