Description:
Paris - London Service. Compagnie
des Grands Express Aeriens.
This 1920 poster by Renaucourt-Tugny
for Compagnie des Grands Express
Aeriens (C.G.E.A.) shows a Farman
"Goliath" biplane in the air between
the white cliffs of Dover and a
French manor house. C.G.E.A. began
its short but important career in 1919
The company opened service in
the spring of 1920 on the heavily
travelled Paris-London route and
later flew also to Lausanne and
Geneva, Switzerland. The Farman
"Goliath" seated 14 passengers
comfortably in an enclosed cabin,
making it one of the largest and
most innovative planes at the time.
Because C.G.E.A.’s routes paralleled
another French airline, the two
merged in 1923 to form Air Union, a
precursor of Air France.
