The 1909 International Exposition
in Nancy, France was one of the
earliest arts & industries fairs
to feature aviation amongst its
exhibits. In September 1909 the
exposition sponsored a small air
meet and an aeronautical
congress. Throughout the
duration of the fair, the
dirigible "Ville de Nancy" made
regularly scheduled flights with
passengers on board. Although
these were only short "joy rides"
this is the earliest recorded use
of an airship for commercial
purposes.
