Description:
Compagnie General Transaerienne was
one of the earliest air transport
companies in the world. It was
founded in March 1909 as a branch of
the Astra Company, the biggest major
dirigible manufacturer in pre-war
France. In the early days,
Transaerienne made hundreds of
passenger flights in airships and
seaplanes but did not operate
regularly scheduled service until
1919 when it opened a postal route
between Paris and London.
