Description:

French national pride overflows from this
poster advertising an air “fete,” or
festival, in April in Nancy, a city in
Lorraine of eastern France.  Nancy,
known to be a haven for air spectacles
and international expositions, is also
one of the last large French cities before
the French-German border.

A vulture-like eagle, possibly a symbol
for Germany, is “startled” as French-
made Bleriot monoplanes and Farman
biplanes zip in and out of its rocky
perch.  The wings of an up-close Bleriot
Monoplane XI stretch to encompass
the width of the whole of the poster above
the scene.  This monoplane was also a
symbol of great pride for it is the same
type of plane that Bleriot himself used
to make the landmark flight across the
English Channel in 1909.

At the festival, pilots Kuhling and
Loridan wowed crowds with maneuvers
and stunts during this Easter weekend.
