In honor of the 1,000th anniversary of the founding of the Kingdom of Hungary, a world’s fair "Millenium Exposition" was held in a large Budapest park during the summer of 1896. One of the main attractions at this universal exposition was the captive balloon run by Frenchman Louis Godard, a ember of the famous Godard ballooning family. Everyday, weather permitting, Godard and two other french aeronauts took passengers on a short ride up in their tethered balloon to view a unique aerial panorama of Buda and Pest, the two parts of the city separated by the Danube River. During the first two months they took 7,000 passengers, 2,000 women and 5,000 men.
